Privacy Notice
Short Version
Nothing is stored about a visitor to this website. The absolute bare minimum of data is stored for a petition signature. University policies are followed. We are using CalNet authentication to ensure valid UCB students, faculty and staff sign once (and only once).
Petition signer data
For petition signers, the following information is stored:
- Calnet UID
- Name
- Date and time of signing
Please note the calnet UID is the publicly available uid, and not the student ID or employee ID. Calnet UID is considered public information according to University policy, while the other two are not. Here is more information on Berkeley's Restricted Data policies.
CalNet Logins
All CalNet logins are done using the University's CalNet infrastructure. Hence a login requires you present your CalNet information to the official University Authentication Web Site (AWS) only.
The AWS site transmits to this site a plaintext and an encrypted token containing your Calnet UID, the name of this site, and the login time. This information is stored as a cookie on your machine, and the cookie is set to expire on browser close. This is the sole use of cookies on this site.
This follows the University standard for authentication. More information on AWS can be found here.
